ATTENTION FRESHERS! Beds are an absolute nightmare for students. If you’re not already aware of the problem, then you MUST read this!
Year after year we’ve watched students spend Flo-Week, O-Week and half of their first flatting semester on the couch, WHY? Because beds are not designed for students. They’re expensive, hard to move around (requiring cars and trailers…), and put simply, they’re a whole lot of admin! Here’s some info;
How much do beds really cost?
Often retailed between $800 - $4,000+
Delivery is an additional cost, usually starting around $50
HIDDEN FEES… Including commission payments to salesmen, storage fees etc.

What about second hand?
This is a genuine option for many students. What they don’t realise is how much hard work this is to organise and the number of hidden expenses that come with going second hand.
The student purchases a second hand bed in Oct/Nov from a graduating student who is selling all of their personal flat belongings
They then have to organise the bed to be picked up from the graduating students flat
They’ve got to find storage for it until they arrive back down in Jan/Feb the following year
Upon arriving back the following year, they’ve got to get the bed from storage back to their flat
After all that, it’s still cost them and arm and a leg and they’ve ended up with a dusty second hand bed… Nice ;)
EXPENSES:
Second hand bed: $100 - $600
Transport: Box of beers - $100
Storage @ $25/week: $300
